This course is designed for physicians, healthcare professionals, and others who work with older adults.

Learning Objectives

  1. Describe current research findings regarding medical aspects of elder abuse.

  2. Report and document suspected elder mistreatment and describe current educational curricula in the dental and medical fields.

  3. Describe the roles of members of interdisciplinary teams and how they inter-relate.

  4. Recognize when an elder death may be suspicious and requires further investigation.

  5. Identify as resources examples of elder abuse intervention programs in Australia and Canada.

  6. Describe the role of Adult Protective Services and the unique role of the social worker in addressing elder abuse.

  7. Describe the process of determining capacity as it relates to victims of elder abuse.
